Demonstrating the influence of sediment source in dredged sediment recovery for brick and tile production

چکیده
The most important raw materials for the building industry are natural quarried rocks. Preservation of this non-renewable resource needs valorizing products, vast majority which is currently considered as waste. Among these, dredged sediments have gained much attention and should play a key role in preservation. aim paper to achieve resource-efficient evaluation re-use fine-grained heavy clay by investigating relationship between sediment provenance industrial properties. 86 spot samples from French dam reservoirs estuaries were studied, focusing on grain-size mineralogy. Industrial technological tests performed 53 representative varied lithological sources. Following PCA analysis, source fingerprinting four categories proposed, allowing direct brick-tile making. Best scores, close values, obtained category (3) mixture sedimentary, plutonic metamorphic rocks low scores two categories, (1) sedimentary (high carbonate content), (2) (lack melting compound). Extrusion failed (4) or minerals). Consistency MIF (Mineralogical Framework) shows that even though classification simplified, it constitutes reference predict recovery tile brick Insights study can be particularly useful managers when making decision regarding fossil preservation substitution with sediments.

Determination and fractionation of sulphur in a contaminated dredged sediment.
Conversion of sulphur compounds in reduced, contaminated sediments that are brought in upland conditions may largely affect the potential mobility of heavy metal contaminants. We applied selected methods for the determination of total sulphur and sulphur fractions in a contaminated sediment in the reduced state and after gradual drying and oxidation during 1 month. Dry ashing, followed by ion c...

The use of sediment color as a fingerprint property to determine sediment sources is an emerging technique that can provide a rapid and inexpensive means of investigating sediment sources. The present study aims to test the feasibility of color fingerprint properties to apportion sediment sources within the South Tobacco Creek Watershed (74 km) in Manitoba, Canada. Suspended sediment from 2009 ...
